Effect of Ether and Methoxyflurane Anesthesia on Protein Contents of the Liver and Lung Tissues in the Rabbit

Abstract
In the present study, an effort was made to elucidate the possible effect of ether and methosyflurane anesthesia on the protein contents of the lirer and lung tissues, subjecting rabbits to the light or deep inhalation anesthesia with the above ar,~esthetics by the non-rebreathing system::; The protein content was measured by the method of Lowry et al, using Folin-Phenol reagent. The comparison was made with the protein content of the ~iormal rabbit, and the results obtained are summarized as follows;
1) The protein of the liver and lung tissue of the norm~~l rabbit was 9Q.46.33mg/gm wet wt and 42.73.32mg/gm wet wt, respectively.
2) In the ether anesthesia group, the protein contents of the liver and lung in the light anesthesia were similar to that of the norrlal (control) group whereas in the deep anesthesia, the lives proteir. increased considerably at 30 minutes after the anesthesia and then returned to the normal value at EO minutes. The tendency of the increased protein content as in the liver tissue was not observable in the lung tissue, and the protein content remained stable in the entire stage of the deep anesthesia.
3) In the methosyflurane anesthesia group, the protein contents of the liver and lunS Tissues did not change noticeably from the norr:.al value throughout the entire experiment.
